Monochrome GT4 Australia has completed its weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park, with all three classes producing plenty of action throughout the race.
Silver Cup
Tom Hayman and Jett Murray have moved closer to the Silver Cup title after guiding the #25 Method Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4 to a dominant victory where they led from lights out to the chequered flag.
Finishing in second place off the back of a lightning quick opening lap was the #35 Miedecke Motorsport by Lubrimaxx Ford Mustang GT4 of Blake Tracey and George Miedecke, while Purdie Racing’s Blake Purdie and Jobe Stewart rounded out the podium following a consistent performance behind the wheel of #48 Audi R8 GT4.
The top three was effectively built off the back of an entertaining opening few laps, which saw Miedecke charge from the third row to second place off the line to slot himself behind Murray, while Stewart also made it past yesterday’s winner Jack Johnson in the Team Soutar Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4.
At the front of the field, Murray built a solid lead ahead of the rest of the pack and when it came to the pit stops, the team kept Murray out there for an extra lap to build a bigger gap with some clean air.
In the end, the move paid dividends as he eventually brought the car back into the pits and gave the car to Hayman, the Queenslander emerged with the three-second lead despite completing a longer pit stop due to their podium yesterday.
Tracey also came out behind him and started well, but was unable to chase down Hayman - eventually settling for second place, while Purdie and Stewart completed the podium.
Johnson’s co-driver Will Exton did a marvellous job to navigate his way up the order after emerging from the pit stop significantly down the order, securing a well-deserved fourth for yesterday’s winners, while Daniel Frougas rounded out the top five in the #9 GWR Australia GR Supra EVO GT4 alongside series debutant Zac Blincoe.
Silver-Am
Dean Campbell has kept his Silver-Am Cup title hopes alive after he and Cody Burcher enjoyed a dominant victory on Sunday afternoon as the #118 Method Motorsport Ford Mustang GT4 crossed the line almost 20 seconds ahead of the next best driver.
Finishing in second place was another Silver-Am Cup title contender in Caleb Paterson, who produced a brilliant effort behind the wheel of the #28 Norganic Proteins Porsche 718 Cayman he shares with Kent Quinn, while Aaron Seton and Anthony Di Mauro brought the #1 Gomersall Motorsport Ford Mustang GT4 home in third - capping a solid debut weekend for Di Mauro.
With Tim Leahey starting from top spot in the #22 Ashley Seward Motorsport BMW M4 GT4 G82 he shared with Dylan O’Keeffe, the New South Welshman had a solid stint where he comfortably kept the car well ahead of Campbell, who was a distant second.
Following the pit stops, the BMW sadly lost its place at the head of the class, opening the door for the #118 Ford Mustang GT4 to storm into the lead with Burcher producing a mature drive to bring the car home in first place untroubled from anyone else in the class.
Another major moment in the class came after the pit stop window, when the #75 McLaren Artura GT4 of Zac Soutar and Glenn Nirwan was given a drive-through penalty - which cost the Saturday winners a shot at a podium with Soutar having been comfortably in second place at the time.
That penalty elevated the #28 Porsche of Caleb Paterson and Quinn to second place, and the #1 Ford Mustang of Seton and Di Mauro into the top three, rewarding both crews after their strong performances throughout the race.
Am Cup
Glenn Walker made it consecutive wins in the Am Cup at Sydney to put himself in a solid position for the class title as a lightning-quick opening half of the race helped the #14 Gomersall Motorsport Ford Mustang produce a 14-second victory.
It was a much closer affair for the remaining podium places as Nathan Callaghan and Chris Lillis secured a deserving runner-up finish in their #64 Method Motorsport Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS, while Ekebol MPC’s Jarrod Keyte completed the podium in the #21 Ford Mustang GT4.
Similarly to yesterday, Walker started the race in second place having qualified behind the #11 Method Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4 of Ryan Sorensen, however it didn’t take long for the class leader to establish himself at the front.
Once he hit the front of Am Cup, he never looked back and remained at the front of the 35-lap race, while behind him, there was plenty of battles going on.
Sorensen occupied second place for much of the opening half as Keyte sat in third place, however the Ford Mustang pilot eventually got past Sorensen on lap 14, before Callaghan in the #64 Porsche got ahead of the McLaren following the pit stops - Sorensen dropping towards the back of the field.
Callaghan then spent the rest of the race chasing down Keyte and the West Australian was pushing hard - eventually making the move with just six minutes to go. From that point, Callaghan held onto second place to score valuable points and keep him and Lillis in the hunt for the title.
Monochrome GT4 Australia now looks towards its final round of the 2026 season, which headlines the Shannons SpeedSeries LIQUI MOLY GT Festival Sandown on 30 October - 1 November.
