The remaining prizes for the 2024 Monochrome GT4 Australia season to be presented at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst International finale have been finalised.
As previously announced, the Am Cup winners for the final round of the season will receive a stunning BRM V12 watch from Mark Cotterell Master Jeweller.
The final prize to be given at Mount Panorama will be a bespoke, hand crafted ring designed by Mark Cotterell and valued at $12,000, which will be presented to the season-winning Pro-Am Cup entrant. The proposed design for the ring is inspired by GT racing and features many intricate details.
The two prizes are in addition to the BRM V6 watch, which was won by George Miedeke and Rylan Gray for their Silver Cup victory in the three-hour endurance race at Queensland Raceway.
“Detail is important to me if we’re going to do a piece to make,” explained Cotterell.
“I want people to see this and want one of their own.
“It’s a pretty interesting piece, it’s not your ordinary ring. I’ve taken a lot of cues off race cars, engineering and all things GT orientated, but a lot of people get very off on how tricky things are to make.
“However, I think it’s got to be conceptually beautiful and interesting to look at."
Carbon fibre is a specialty at Cotterell’s business and came about after he designed his own prototype sports car, but instead used it to make rings with great success.
“We do a collection of rings that are MC carbon,” Cotterell said.
“This range is generally platinum and gold with a carbon insert press fit. Big, heavy and beautiful pieces, but all the carbon is hand laid leaving the fibres exposed, which we complete in-house.”
Mark Cotterell Master Jeweller is known for its old school practices and bespoke designs, which will be put into the Monochrome GT4 Australia championship ring.
“We do a lot of hybrid designs due to the fact that most of what we offer is handmade, so it’s ridgy didge old school,” Cotterell elaborated.
“We do use a fair bit of CAD, but also use casts, but we do a lot of hybrid combining both these practices in addition to handmade details. There’s a lot of labour of love items.”
Cotterell will return to the race track alongside Jarrod Hughes in his Ginetta G55 GT4 at Sydney Motorsport Park on October 18-20 for Round 5 of Monochrome GT4 Australia as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries.
