The biggest field of the Monochrome GT4 Australia season competed at Sydney Motorsport Park and it provided some great racing.
It was a successful weekend for McLaren, there were plenty of new drivers and it all bodes well for a great contest at the Bathurst season finale. But before then, check out some of the talking points from Sydney.
Jacob Lawrence secures Am Cup crown
Congratulations go to Jacob Lawrence and Randall Racing on securing the Am Cup title with a round to spare. Lawrence has been impressive in his first campaign at national level competing against many more experienced drivers. Having John Bowe as mentor helps, but the Randall Racing squad has lifted its games throughout the season and will be one to watch in 2025.
McLaren’s complete clean-sweep
McLaren proved very handy around Sydney Motorsport Park as the Artura GT4 completed a sweep of the class results. Marcos Flack and Tom Hayman continued to charge towards the Silver Cup by winning both races, but Sunday also included their Method Motorsport teammate Anthony Levitt securing the victory in Am Cup and Zagame Autosport doing likewise in Pro-Am. Josh Buchan highlighted the pace of the Artura GT4 in winning the Pro-Am Cup on Sunday alongside Jason Yu in which charged through the Silver Cup entries bar the leading Method Motorsport entry.
The Mustangs multiply
Jason Gomersall’s long-awaited debut in the iSeek Ford Mustang and what a striking addition it was. One surprise was the late decision to bring in Aaron Seton to provide driving support. It proved squick straight out of the box by finishing runner up in Pro-Am at the end of the opening race and fifth in the second. The Ford Mustang GT4 will make its debut at Bathurst, but it will be a model to watch.
The Pro-Am Cup title almost wrapped up
Nearly like Jacob Lawrence in Am Cup, Lachlan Mineeff and Shane Smollen have nearly sealed the deal in Pro-Am Cup. In fact, the duo just need one point to take the crown. It’s been a hard fought season despite what it appears on paper as Steve Jakic and Ryder Quinn have proven to be quick in their TekworkX Motorsport BMW M4 GT4 G82.
Biggest field yet and plenty of variety
Sydney welcomed 21-entries including plenty of new contenders. Of course, previously mentioned was the Gomersall Motorsport Ford Mustang, but also experienced production car competitor Anthony Soole joined in his Property Investment Store McLaren 570S GT4. TekworkX Motorsport team owner Rob Woods was joined by Lachlan Evennett in a second Porsche 718 Cayman RS CS, while Super2 racer Lochie Dalton was a welcome addition in the Buckby Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT4 alongside fellow Tasmanian Ben Newman. The conclusion for the Monochrome GT4 Australia season is at the Bathurst International on November 8-10.
