Josh Buchan secures McLaren Monochrome GT4 Australia Series drive

Reigning TCR Australia Series winner Josh Buchan will make his sports cars debut in the opening round of the Monochrome GT4 Australia Series at Phillip Island next weekend.

The 29-year-old will compete with new Sydney-based team DNA Autosport in a brand-new McLaren Artura GT4.

Buchan will compete in the Pro-Am class alongside Jason Yu as he completes double duty alongside his TCR Australia commitments with HMO Customer Racing.

The DNA Autosport team is a relatively new entity to circuit racing, but has experience across multiple categories including running entries in Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge, Toyota 86s, World Time Attack and more.

The brand-new Artura to be shared by Buchan and Yu will race is the same model of McLaren that Method Motorsport recently took delivery of and competed in the Repco Bathurst 12 Hour.

The opening round of the Monochrome GT4 Australia Series will be held at Phillip Island as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries on April 12-14 broadcast live on 7mate and 7plus.

The Monochrome GT4 Australia Series will contest two one hour races at Phillip Island to open the six round schedule.

“It’s very exciting to join the brand-new GT4 category,” said Buchan.

“The field sounds like it is going to be very competitive. There are some amazing cars and drivers from the lists I’ve seen.

“GT4 cars are awesome. These cars are the halo cars of the brands, so it makes it really exciting to be involved from the start.

“I was at the shakedown for the car at Phillip Island recently. I probably only did half a dozen laps, but even in that short period it was intuitive to drive. It wasn’t intimidating and it was a dream straight away.

“You buy these cars, take it to the track and rip it straight away. It ran faultlessly in our shakedown and I expect it to do the same all year.

“Jason and I will be in the Pro-Am class. Jason and I have been friends for some time now, we’re going to have a great time doing this. It’s quite unique to be able to go racing with your mate, so I feel quite privileged to do that.

“I’ve been part of the process of getting the car too. We took delivery from Zagame in Melbourne, and they have been terrific. All the organisational stuff and the ease of taking delivery from Rod Wilson … It's a team that knows motorsport. They made the whole experience exceptional and they’ve been a pleasure to deal with.”
