Jason Yu and Josh Buchan prepared for tough Silver Am fight

After completing a part-season campaign in 2024, Zagame Autosport’s Jason Yu and Josh Buchan are back for a full assault on the Silver Am title this year.

The campaign is backed by McLaren Customer Racing’s nominated Australian Motorsport Retailer Zagame Autosport as Buchan and Yu return in the same Artura GT4 as last year.

Buchan achieved back-to-back TCR Australia titles last year, and alongside Yu, scored a win on their Monochrome GT4 Australia debut at Phillip Island’s season opener, with another coming on home turf at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Yu is a newcomer to motorsport, making his maiden circuit racing appearance at the 2024 season opening event, but proved quick almost immediately among his fellow amateur competitors to end the season third in the Pro-Am Cup, known as Silver-Am Cup in 2025.

Zagame Autosport continues to back the program alongside its role of offering track support to other McLaren customers in Monochrome GT4 Australia. This is set to ramp up in 2025 following positive meetings with McLaren Customer Racing’s top brass at this year’s Bathurst 12 Hour.

McLaren itself enjoyed immense success in last year’s Monochrome GT4 Australia by scoring race victories in each class, with Method Motorsport’s Tom Hayman and Marcos Flack securing the overall Silver Cup title by season’s end.

A quality field is set to assemble at Phillip Island for the opening round of the 2025 Monochrome GT4 Australia season as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries on April 4-6.

“Last year was a bit of a whirlwind with how it all came together, what happened and how it all transpired,” said Buchan.

“It was just reconnaissance for this season. I think what’s overlooked a lot for Am drivers is not just the driving, but the process and Jason having this experience now is a positive. We’ve learnt a lot about the car as well and with these things combined I think we’re in a good spot relative to where we were last year.

“Variety in motorsport is essential to developing your own skillset. I think it’s a great class, the cars aren’t too fast to the point where it’s not possible to race side-by-side and the models competing in GT4 are great to look at, especially the McLaren.

“My job is to be the quickest of McLarens as often as I can and as a side note to make sure Jason is prepared as much as he can be when he’s in the car too because his performance is probably more influential than mine.

“We’ve had great results, but the series and level of competition is going to be on another level this year. The aim is to win, but if we can get the most out ourselves the rest will take care of itself.”

Rod Wilson
General Manager, Zagame Autosport

“We were never going to undertake a full year and it was Josh who introduced me to Jason Yu originally,” said Wilson

“We took over the management of Jason’s entry during the opening round, then going on to do The Bend, Sydney Motorsport Park and Bathurst as a prelude to completing a full season in 2025.

“We’re back with the same driver line-up, team and McLaren Artura GT4 under the Zagame Autosport banner.

“Our performances from last year put us right up the front and I think although there will be more competition, we should be at the pointy end.

“I think the Artura GT4 is still one of the best models on the grid courtesy of increased parts support from Zagame Autosport through its role as McLaren’s nominated motorsport retailer in Australia, which has been the case since 2018.

“Zagame Autosport will carry a comprehensive parts inventory to each round and will fly the flag for McLaren in Monochrome GT4 Australia.

“We had some fairly high-level talks at the Bathurst 12 Hour, with McLaren’s international motorsport boss Mark Wootton. He witnessed first-hand what Zagame Autosport has built in Australia and is pretty enthusiastic.”
