Three different manufactures lead classes in Pre-Qualifying

Monochrome GT4 Australia has wrapped up its Friday track activity in style as three different manufacturers took out bragging rights in the category’s wet Pre-Qualifying session.

Silver

Triple Eight Race Engineering’s Jarrod Hughes and Summer Rintoule comfortably topped the timesheets in the day’s final session as they finished six tenths faster than any other driver in the class.

Running in their Mercedes - AMG GT4, it was Hughes who was able to secure their best time of the session with his late lap time of 1:16.734 proving unbeatable.

Hughes managed to navigate the conditions perfectly during his final laps of pre-qualifying, with the next best-ranked entry in the class being the Ford Mustang GT4 of Rylan Gray and George Miedecke.

Having only run five laps in Practice 1, Gray and Miedecke spent much more time out on track in Pre-Qualifying to comfortably end up second in class, as the Mercedes - AMG GT4 of Jake Camilleri ended up one and a half seconds off.

Silver Am

Lachlan Mineeff and Rob Rubis’ impressive season continued in Pre-Qualifying on Friday as the pair ended up on top, for the first time in  Ginetta Australia colours.

Running in the team’s Ginetta G56 GT4, Mineeff ended up posting their fastest time on his penultimate lap of the session as he edged out the Mercedes - AMG GT4 of Lochie Dalton and Ben Newman.

Like Practice 1 where they went fastest overall, Dalton and Newman produced some impressive laps late in the session to move up the order and put themselves towards the top of the timesheets, only for the Ginetta to edge them right at the end.

Going third fastest for the session was Daniel Frougas and Tim Berryman in the GWR Australia Toyota Supra EVO 2 after the pair ended up more than two seconds off.

Am Cup

Paul Morris and Chris Pappas capped off their first day together in the Norwell Factory Racing McLaren 570S by going fastest in the Am Cup.

Interestingly, Morris was fastest out of the whole 28-car field for a large portion of the session, before a number of Silver Am and Silver Cup drivers knocked them off in the final minutes.

In the end, Pappas posted the pair’s fastest time on his penultimate lap with his 1:18.210s just two tenths of a second faster than reigning Am Cup champion Jacob Lawrence in the Randall Racing BMW M4 GT4 G82.

Going third fastest for the session was Shane Smollen in the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 CS RS, who was one and a half seconds off the BMW.

Monochrome GT4 Australia next takes centre stage at Queensland Raceway on Saturday at 11.15am AEST with Qualifying.

Fans will be able to watch the action unfold via 7plus from 9am AEST.
