Monochrome GT4 Australia experienced another chaotic race at Queensland Raceway as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries’ EVENTelec GT Festival Queensland on Sunday morning despite the drier conditions.
Similar to Saturday’s Race, the BMW Safety Car was brought out multiple times during the highly interrupted affair with six retirements, as all three classes saw different drivers stand on the top step of the podium.
Silver Cup
Rylan Gray and George Miedecke took out top honours in Silver Class after an entertaining race saw the Miedecke Motorsport with Lubrimaxx Ford Mustang GT4 defending multiple Safety Car restarts and challenges.
Having had a strong start to the race overall, both Miedecke and Gray each produced stellar stints to secure the victory, as they eventually came out on top over the JGI Triple Eight Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4 of Jarrod Hughes and Summer Rintoule.
Claiming third place for the final race of the weekend was Nash Morris and Zoe Woods in the TekworkX Motorsport / ZW Racing Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS as the top three were separated by just over half a second.
In what was a dramatic race from start to finish, Miedecke found himself in a tight battle with Method Motorsport’s Max Geoghegan in the McLaren Artura GT4 as the two went wheel to wheel for a number of laps before contact between the two saw the Ford Mustang drop to second.
Geoghegan’s Method Motorsport teammate Lochie Hennock soon ended up beached in the gravel, bringing out the BMW Safety Car and giving everyone a chance to pit.
While the majority of the field chose to pit, a decision to keep Geoghegan out on track eventually cost Method Motorsport the lead as they tumbled down the order when they eventually came through and Tom Hayman took over.
At the front of the field, Gray came out on top and blasted away ahead of the group before having to defend his lead against Hughes towards the end of the race when the Safety Car was brought out again.
Despite Hughes’ best efforts to grab the lead, Gray held on to secure the victory for the Ford Mustang.
Am Cup
Just like the Silver Cup, the Am Cup went right down to the wire with reigning champion Jacob Lawrence claiming the victory over Method Motorsport’s Nathan Callaghan and Chris Lillis.
Running in the Randall Racing BMW M4 GT4 G82, Lawrence was locked in a tight duel with the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS of Callaghan and Lillis throughout the whole race – the latter pair taking minor honours in the first battle before Lawrence stormed back into the lead in the final stages.
Starting the race from second place behind Shane Smollen, Lawrence couldn’t get ahead of the #1 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS during the first stint of the race before dropping behind Lillis following the first Safety Car period as a result of going wide.
While Lillis went into his stop ahead of Lawrence, the reigning champion slowly worked his way back into contention and eventually got the move done on Callaghan to take the lead.
Lawrence went on to hold on for the win, crossing the line ahead of Callaghan by five tenths after the late restart, while Kamir Arratoon guided his AR Nineteen Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT4 to a second consecutive podium after Smollen had a couple of minor mishaps.
Silver-Am Cup
A consistent Cameron Crick and Dean Campbell claimed the victory in Silver-AM after an incredible rise up the field for the duo, having started from the back of the grid.
Taking out second place was the Gomersall Motorsport Ford Mustang of Aaron Seton and Jason Gomersall, while Buckby Motorsport’s Lochie Dalton and Ben Newman rounded out the class podium in their Mercedes-AMG GT4.
Behind the wheel of the DA Campbell Transport Ford Mustang GT4, it was Campbell who had a strong start to the race and slowly navigated his way up the order as a result of the multiple incidents before handing to Crick, who continued that momentum and picked off drivers one by one.
The pair were able to take advantage of a number of incidents involving class rivals, including the Ginetta G56 GT4 of Lachlan Mineeff and Rob Rubis after contact with Daniel Frougas in the GWR Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO 2.
Monochrome GT4 Australia now has a lengthy break before Round 4 of the 2025 season as part of GT Festival Sandown in July.
