Cameron and Hansford lead intriguing Monochrome GT4 Australia Practice 1 results at Sandown

Monochrome GT4 Australia has completed its first Practice session for GT Festival Sandown, with 27 cars getting plenty of laps on the famous Sandown International Raceway.

Following the drama-free opening practice session, there were plenty of notable results to occur, with a mix of contenders and rookies getting amongst the top three.

Silver-Am Cup
Possibly the biggest news to come out of the session was in the Silver-Am Cup, as Aaron Cameron and Ryan Hansford’s lap time of 1m14.115s proved unbeatable for the session overall.

The result will give the Multispares Racing duo plenty of confidence for the weekend after the team’s Ford Mustang was only recently fixed following their big crash in Queensland.

Sitting in second position for the session was the Keltic Racing Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO 2 of Matt McCutcheon and Tony Quinn, with the reunited pair just one and a half tenths off the pace – a strong result considering this weekend is McCutcheon’s first appearance at Sandown Raceway.

The Toyota duo edged out the DA Campbell Transport Ford Mustang GT4 of Cameron Crick and Dean Campbell by the smallest of margins, as just one hundredth of a second split the two.

Silver Cup
Rylan Gray and George Miedecke’s hunt for the Silver Class title had a strong start on Friday morning, with the pair topping the timesheets for the class.

Behind the wheel of the Miedecke Motorsport with Lubrimaxx Ford Mustang GT4, the pair’s time of 1m14.184s came on their seventh lap and was too good for the rest of the class, as the next best pairing was Nash Morris and Zoe Woods in the TekworkX Motorsport/ZW Racing Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS.

The two leading Silver Cup cars were split by just six hundredths of a second at the end of the session, while Blake Purdie and Daniel Price in the Purdie Racing Audi R8 GT4 were less than one tenth off.

Am Cup
Shane Smollen once again showcased his strength in the Method Motorsport Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS, going fastest in the Am Cup for Practice 1.

Posting his best time of 1m15.335s on his 11th lap of Sandown, Smollen’s time was too strong for the rest of the competition, as he finished two tenths faster than title rival Jacob Lawrance.

Splitting Smollen and the Randall Racing BMW M4 GT4 G82 of Lawrence on the timesheets was the second Method Motorsport Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS of Nathan Callaghan and Chris Lillis, whose best time was less than one tenth of a second from their teammates.
