Am Cup driver Allan Sargeant to steer Toyota Supra for Monochrome GT4 Australia debut in NZ

Another talented New Zealand driver will join the Monochrome GT4 Australia ranks at GT Festival Hampton Downs, with Sargeant confirmed to feature in the 2025 season finale.

Locked in to run in the Am class as a solo entry, Sargeant will represent successful outfit, Racelab in a Toyota GR Supra GT4 Evo 2 – adding to a long list of Supras at the event.

While the visit to New Zealand will be Sargeant’s first appearance in Monochrome GT4 Australia, he enters the event with a wealth of experience on home soil in a GT4 car as a regular racer in New Zealand GT competitions over the past few years.

Starting out in the Rodin Cars NZ Super GT Series in 2022 behind the wheel of a Ginetta G55 GT4, Sargeant had a solid debut season where his consistency over 12 races was rewarded with a sixth-place finish.

A move to the GT New Zealand Championship in 2023 was rewarded with his first GT4-class podium, before he had a breakout season in 2024 with three class wins and six podiums across the year to comfortably finish fourth in class.

For the current season, Sargeant switched the Ginetta G55 for a Toyota GR Supra GT4 Evo 2 and the move instantly paid dividends as he finished on the class podium six times in eight races.

A big contributor to Sargeant’s development over the past two years has been having Greg Murphy as his driving coach, with the Supercars legend helping Sargeant improve his race craft and overall skill.

Although he is still searching for his first win in the class, Sargeant will undoubtedly be a top contender in Monochrome GT4 Australia Am Cup in what is his first appearance in the class.

Sargeant joins the grid under the Racelab banner, a team synonymous with engineering precision, driver development, and performance excellence across New Zealand’s competitive motorsport landscape.

Based out of Auckland, Racelab is involved in various national racing categories, including the Toyota 86 Championship, endurance racing, and GT New Zealand Championship.

Sargeant and Racelab will contest the final round of the 2025 Monochrome GT4 Australia season at Hampton Downs on 31 October – 2 November.

QUOTES

Allan Sargeant
Toyota GR Supra GT4 Evo 2 Driver

“I’m really excited for this opportunity as it’s a chance to test myself against drivers from Australia in what will be new territory for me, even though I’ve spent the last three years racing in GT4,” Sargeant said.

“The switch to the Toyota has been a big change. The Ginetta was much lighter and relied more on aero than mechanical grip, which made it slower in a straight line and harder to pass. The Toyota, on the other hand, demands a different driving style but has more grunt, which I’ve really been enjoying.

“We’ve spent a lot of time fine-tuning the setup of the Supra, making adjustments every time I get behind the wheel. It’s been a process, but now I’ve got a trusted setup and a lot more confidence, which has translated into faster times across the board. We’ve also been learning how to get the most out of the Pirelli tyres in preparation for this event.

“The past 18 months have been a bit disrupted for personal reasons, and I’ll admit my head wasn’t fully in it, but now I’m completely focused on motorsport. The car feels stable and much easier to drive, so I’d like to think I’ve got a good chance of going for a class podium.

“It’s going to be a baptism of fire given how competitive the field is though. While I don’t want to interfere with the Australian title contenders, I’m there to get a strong result against the Kiwis.

“Overall, I’m super excited to get out there, mix it up with the Aussies and New Zealanders, and see how we stack up against some of the best talent from both countries.

Neil Garner
Racelab CEO and Team Manager

“Allan has shown tremendous adaptability and focus in testing,” Garner said.

“The Supra GT4 has proven to be a formidable and well-balanced package, and Allan’s debut represents our ongoing investment in both driver growth and GT4 competition in the region.

“The Hampton Downs event marks a key milestone in Racelab’s continued commitment to fostering top-tier GT racing talent and showcasing the capability of the Supra GT4 platform.”
