Tom McLennan to race McLaren GT4 at The Bend

It will be a reunion of sorts for Tom McLennan as he re-joins Method Motorsport for Round 2 of the Monochrome GT4 Australia at The Bend.

McLennan was part of the podium finishing team at the Repco Bathurst 12 Hour to begin the season – the event that marked the debut of the Chaz Mostert-owned Method Motorsport and its brand-new McLaren Artura GT4s.

McLennan will team up with experienced hand Nathan Morcom in one of the team’s two Artura GT4s. Morcom impressing on his national motor racing return at the GT4 Phillip Island opener, ensuring that McLennan will enter the round as one of the favoured pairings to end the early domination of the Miedecke Motorsport Ford Mustang.

The second Method Motorsport McLaren will be driven by Marcos Flack and Tom Hayman who were one of the entries to challenge for victory in each of the two races.

The 2024 motorsport season is a big one for McLennan, who started the year with his podium result at the Bathurst 12 Hour, a top 10 finish at the Bathurst 6 Hour production car race, plus his duties in the Porsche Carrera Cup Australia where he has scored multiple top 10 results in his debut season.

The Monochrome GT4 Australia will feature two one hour races at The Bend’s West circuit on May 31-June 2 as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries.

Saturday and Sunday’s racing action will feature live and free on the screens of Seven.

“I’m really happy to get back with Method Motorsport for my first GT4 race of the year,” said McLennan.

“It was great to drive the McLaren at the Bathurst 12 Hour, but this will be different. There were only four GT4 cars in that race, so being amongst cars with similar speeds this time will mean I’m not looking in my rear vision mirror for most of the race!

“I’m a round behind everyone else, so practice on Thursday and Friday will be important. It will be about learning the car, the different tyres, plus working with a new co-driver. Nathan was very fast at Phillip Island, so it will be good to learn from him.

“I haven’t driven on The Bend’s West circuit. That will certainly be new and will make for some pretty fast laps.

“I really enjoyed my time with Method at Bathurst. They are a great crew to drive for. We all got along well, and they are good for a laugh, which is Chaz’s mentality. I can’t wait to get stuck into it next week.”
