Monochrome GT4 Australia experience Wet and wild conditions in double Sandown Qualifying

The final double Qualifying session for Monochrome GT4 Australia in 2026 has been completed as all 30 teams and drivers battled the wet and wild conditions of Sandown International Motor Raceway.

In what were interrupted sessions, it was Method Motorsport who enjoyed no shortage of bragging rights with top spot across four of the six available pole positions.

Silver
The Silver Cup had two different teams enjoy top honours in Qualifying as Cameron McLeod scored his first ever Pole Position in the series in the opening session before Cup leader Jett Murray guided the #25 Method Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4 he shares with Tom Hayman to Pole in Qualifying 2.

In the first session, there was plenty of movement up and down the order as a red flag was brought out midway throughout - however in the end, McLeod steered the #62 Wallis Motorsport Ford
Mustang GT4 to an unbeaten time of 1:20.310 - giving him and Jack Wallis the ideal start to the weekend.

Starting beside them on the front row will be Blake Purdie and Jobe Stewart in the #48 Purdie Racing Audi R8 LMS GT4 after the former was just four hundredths of a second off the leading Ford Mustang.

While Hayman qualified sixth in class, the current Cup leaders will start tomorrow’s race from the front as Murray topped the timesheets with a brilliant 1:20.066 - getting the pair even closer to the title.

Going second fastest for the session was Team Soutar Motorsport’s Jack Johnson, with the Victorian almost five tenths of a second behind in the #128 McLaren Aurora GT4 he shares with William Exton.

Silver-Am
Like the Silver Cup, there were two different pole sitters for the class as Caleb Paterson led the way in qualifying overall in the first session, while fellow title contender Dean Campbell gave himself every chance to for class honours by going fastest in Qualifying 2.

Despite Campbell being a major talking point in the overall Silver-Am Cup honours, it was Paterson who was the star of the double qualifying session as he guided the #28 Norganic Proteins Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS to a time of 1:19.644.

It took until the last moments of Qualifying 1 for Paterson to secure pole position as he snatched the front row start from Lachlan Evennett in the #88 CAMM Quarries & Concrete GR Supra GT4 he shares with Silver-Am Cup title contender Andrew Torti.

Evennett sat in provisional pole after the lap time of 1:20.077 he set on his ninth attempt looked to seal the deal, until Paterson’s last minute heroics in the session saw him earn Pole Position by four tenths.

There was just as much drama in the second qualifying session with the red flag brought out earlier, however like Paterson, the results went right down to the wire as less than three tenths of a second separated Campbell and Paterson’s Norganic Proteins teammate, Kent Quinn.

Sharing the #118 Method Motorsport Ford Mustang GT4 with Cody Burcher, Campbell’s unbeaten time came in his seventh and final lap as he recorded a 1:22.552, while Quinn recorded a 1:22.826 on his final lap of the day.

Am Cup
Method Motorsport dominated both Qualifying sessions as Nathan Callaghan and Chris Lillis both recorded important Pole Positions as the pair looked to secure Am Cup honours.

With Callaghan behind the wheel of the #68 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS in Qualifying 1, he managed to steer the car to a 1:21.211 - one whole second ahead of the next best driver who was Jacob Lawrence in the #32 Randall Racing BMW M4 GT4 G82 - a remarkable effort from the latter considering he crashed out of Friday’s morning Practice session.

Callaghan’s teammate in Lillis then backed up the result in Qualifying 2 as he recorded a 1:22.154 on his final lap of the session - beating Method Motorsport teammate Ryan Sorensen in the #11 McLaren Aurora GT4 by nine tenths of a second.

The qualifying results put the pair in a commanding position for their title fight as they look to chase down current Am Cup leader Glenn Walker, who qualified fourth and third respectively.
Today’s sole race for Monochrome GT4 Australia will be at 3:00pm AEDT in the trying conditions of Sandown.
