A class change for Tim Leahey opens the door for an outright victory driving the Ashley Seward Motorsport-prepared BMW M4 GT4 G82 in the latest Monochrome GT4 Australia round at The Bend.
The experienced Leahey has this season returned to contest a full program in Monochrome GT4 Australia and emerged a frontrunner at Phillip Island when he not only dominated the Am Cup, but took an outright podium in the opening race.
Moving up a class was a decision made between Leahey and Ashley Seward Motorsport after exceeding expectations at Phillip Island, with the pursuit of outright success now a real possibility in Silver Cup.
“We finished third outright at Phillip Island, but then you kind of get a penalty for finishing first (in Am),” said Seward.
“We felt, with how we were going, it gives us a disadvantage, so we want to win outright.
“If I’m honest, we always wanted to be considered as an outright threat – we’re certainly not going there to be just a number.
“Tim is a great driver. If anything, underrated. He is racing against young kids and ex-Super2 guys. We want to go home with an outright win.
“Aiming for the outright overall series win might be hard, as we’ve given everyone a one round headstart, but you never know. We are confident in Tim and the BMW M4 package.”
Seward also added the West configuration will provide plenty of action and will keep the drivers busy.
“I think that the West circuit is going to produce some exciting racing,” Seward revealed. “There’s going to be some big lunging under brakes that could create some excitement. It’s going to create some good racing.”
Leahey’s Central West Prestige BMW is just one of four entries spanning as many categories fielded by Ashley Seward Motorsport at the Shannons SpeedSeries event at The Bend on May 31-June 2.
