THE GT4 DEBRIEF: A reflection on the GT Festival

Monochrome GT4 Australia welcomed new winners across the GT Festival round at Phillip Island.

A large crowd enjoyed the action at Phillip Island for the first GT Festival as the grid welcomed another manufacturer in the form of Audi and the battle for class supremacy was thrilling throughout.

Check out the reflection of a promising weekend.

The Orange combo doing the double

Tim Leahey was a welcome return to the field as he provided fellow Orange-based driver Cody Burcher the opportunity to drive the Central West Prestige BMW M4 GT4 G82. Leahey provided Super3 leader Burcher an opportunity to gain more mileage and it proved a masterstroke as the duo were the strongest at Phillip Island. The pair secured both Silver Cup victories providing another thrilling aspect to the season so far.

Method Motorsport take the lead

Although not the fastest of the weekend, Method Motorsport’s Marcos Flack and Tom Hayman took the lead in Silver Cup after the GT Festival. The misfortune of the Miedecke Motorsport/Lubrimaxx team contributed, but the young duo have been incredibly consistent this season and remained this at Phillip Island. Flack and Hayman finished on the podium in both races at the GT Festival to continue a run they have enjoyed all year not finishing less than third this season.

Ryder Quinn sets the pace in Pro-Am

Lachlan Mineeff and Shane Smollen have enjoyed immense success so far in Pro-Am driving the Method Motorsport Porsche 718 Cayman CS RS, but this might change. Adding to BMW’s success in Silver Cup, Ryder Quinn and Steve Jakic took the win in Race 2 for Pro-Am Cup in its first event associated with TekworkX Motorsport. Quinn was especially quick in the Black Diamond Building and Construction BMW, which might be a thorn to the side of the Porsche at the remaining rounds.

Love Racing by Volante Rosso Motorsport’s Silver Cup elevation

After being split for the opening four rounds of the series, combining Sam Brabham and Antonio Astuti paid dividends immediately at the GT Festival. A podium for the duo in Silver Cup as part of a stunning battle with the Central West Prestige BMW for the lead highlighted the potential of the pairing. Having previously been split between the father-son Love duo of Rob and Bailey, Brabham pairing with Astuti will now be a contender for Silver Cup.

Anthony Levitt wins on debut

Although the weekend didn’t end the way Anthony Levitt wanted it to, the Queenslander was overjoyed following Am Cup success in Race 1. Levitt was making his debut in Method Motorsport’s McLaren Artura GT4 at the GT Festival and it was one not to be forgotten as he took the Am Cup win. His success also ensured Method Motorsport scored two class wins and a podium across its three entries.
