Starring performances headline Monochrome GT4 Australia’s Race 2 from Phillip Island

An action-packed Race 2 has concluded the opening round of the Monochrome GT4 Australia season at Phillip Island as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries.

  • Audi duo Blake Purdie and Daniel Price take maiden victory

  • Toyota takes debut success in Silver-Am

  • Jacob Lawrence does the double in Am Cup

Silver-Am Cup

GWR Australia has secured its first Monochrome GT4 Australia win with its Toyota Supra GT4 Evo 2 after Daniel Frougas and Tim Berryman followed through on their potential displayed throughout the weekend, putting the disappointment of Race 1’s puncture behind them.

Frougas faced close competition from a charging Aaron Seton in the Gomersall Motorsport Ford Mustang GT4 approaching the race’s conclusion, but the Toyota held a 0.801s margin across the line.

Seton and Jason Gomersall led a surprise packet in the form of Lachlan Mineeff, who rounded out the class podium in the Ginetta G55 GT4 backed by Fisherman’s Wharf Seafood, Nelson Bay shared alongside Rob Rubis.

Recovering from an opening lap spin at Turn 1, Cameron Crick and Dean Campbell just missed the Silver-Am podium to complete a strong debut of the DA Campbell Transport Ford Mustang GT4.

Also involved in the incident, Lochie Dalton and Ben Newman filled out the top five driving the Buckby Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT4.

Am Cup

Jacob Lawrence completed a clean sweep of the weekend by leading a Randall Racing 1-2 to complete the perfect start to his Am Cup defence.

Although he scored victory, it wasn’t as easy as it appeared due to the added competition from the Method Motorsport Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS of Chris Lillis and Nathan Callaghan.

The Porsche led the way comfortably at the pit stops, but a collision with another competitor at Lukey Heights resulted in a DNF for Lillis and Callaghan.

Lawrence picked up the pieces to score the victory from father Peter and Jamie Augustine in the team’s second BMW M4 GT4 G82 leaving Glenn Walker to complete a clean-sweep for the manufacturer driving his elder F82 model, who was elevated to the final podium place after the Love Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4 of Bailey and Rob Love was handed a 15s penalty.

The Loves received the penalty due to a safety car breach, which ultimately dropped them to fourth ahead of the similar entry of Mark Griffith.

Silver Cup

Blake Purdie and Daniel Price turned potential into victory after scoring a maiden Silver Cup victory in Race 2 at Phillip Island marking the first win for Audi in Monochrome GT4 Australia.

It didn’t come without a fight though as the Nippy’s Audi R8 LMS GT4 passed Rylan Gray during the closing stages at Turn 11 to demote the Miedecke Motorsport with Lubrimaxx Ford Mustang GT4 to second after George Miedecke held the lead through his stint.

There was further pain for the Mustang courtesy of Tom Hayman stealing second in the Method Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4 in the closing laps.

Tim Leahey made it three different marques in the top four steering the Central West Prestige BMW M4 GT4 G82 alongside Cody Burcher, while an impressive opening stint from Zoe Woods helped deliver fifth for Nash Morri and her in the TekworkX Motorsport Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS.

Round 2 for Monochrome GT4 Australia will be held alongside the Shannons SpeedSeries at Sydney Motorsport Park on May 2-4.
