Toyota makes fast start to Monochrome GT4 Australia round in Sydney

The 2025 Monochrome GT4 Australia season continues at Sydney Motorsport Park for its second round as part of an impressive Shannons SpeedSeries event and Friday’s opening practice session provided plenty of surprises in the inclement conditions

Silver-Am Cup

Monochrome GT4 Australia debutant Hugo Allan got to grips with the wet conditions to set the pace in the Game Over Toyota Supra GT4 Evo2 he shares with Tony Quinn.

Allan received the opportunity to compete courtesy of his win in the New Zealand Toyota GR86 Championship through the Tony Quinn Foundation and was a remarkable 1.827s quicker than the nearest Silver-Am entry on a 1m 43.566s.

Second was Cameron Crick and Dean Campbell in the DA Campbell Transport Ford Mustang GT4, with GWR Australia placing two Supra Evo2s inside the top three as Daniel Frougas set a time 1.968s in the entry he shares with Tim Berryman.

Following a rapid repair job, Tufflift Racing TSM’s Zac Soutar and Glenn Nirwan were fourth in their McLaren Artura GT4 from the Gomersall Racing Ford Mustang GT4 led by Aaron Seton and Jason Gomersall.

Am Cup

Reigning Silver-Am Cup winner Shane Smollen got his cameo appearance off to the best start by setting the fastest time in Am Cup.

Driving solo in Sydney, Smollen achieved a 1m 45.683s time in his Method Motorsport-run Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS to lead a 1-2 for the German brand.

Second was West Australian duo Chris Lillis and Nathan Callaghan in their freshly repaired Method Motorsport Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS. The duo will be aiming for victory after a collision during Race 2 at Phillip Island hampered their Am Cup title aspirations.

Reigning winner and current Am Cup leader Jacob Lawrence in the lead Randall Racing BMW M4 GT4 G82 was third for the session.

AR Nineteen Racing’s Jamie Arratoon was third in his Mercedes-AMG GT4 from Jamie Augustine in the second Randall Racing BMW as co-driver Peter Lawrence didn’t complete a lap and Nathan Murray completed the top five in the McElrea Racing BMW M4.

Silver Cup

Reigning Silver Cup winner Tom Hayman led the way after the completion of practice after setting a 1m 45.126s.

Behind the wheel of the lead Method Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4 he co-drives with Max Geoghegan, Hayman held a 0.438s advantage to the Lubrimaxx with Miedecke Motorsport Ford Mustang GT4 shared by key title contenders Rylan Gray and George Miedecke.

In third was the Central West Prestige BMW M4 GT4 G82 of Cody Burcher and Tim Leahey ahead of the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS of TekworkX Motorsport duo Nash Morris and Zoe Woods.

Rounding out the top five was the second Method Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4 of Nathan Morcom and Loclan Hennock.

The next Monochrome GT4 Australia session at Sydney Motorsport Park is pre-qualifying scheduled for 4:20pm AEST.
