Mustang clean-sweep at 60th anniversary celebration

It’s apt the Miedecke Motorsport with Lubrimaxx Ford Mustang GT4 shared by George Miedecke and Rylan Gray have sealed the clean-sweep in Round 1 of Monochrome GT4 Australia at Phillip Island where the famous nameplate is celebrating its 60th anniversary.

Mustangs of varying vintage lined the circuit as the latest version took the chequered flag outlasting an early challenge from the Method Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4 of Tom Hayman to take victory.

Following the pit stops, it was Marcos Flack having switched with Hayman enjoying a 16s lead when he emerged from pit lane. Though, the Method Motorsport squad was penalised for not completing the full pit stop time dropping the McLaren to second by the conclusion.

Method Motorsport’s second McLaren of Jesse Bryan and Nathan Morcom sat third for the majority, but was penalised for the same infringement as the sister entry elevating Jake Camilleri to the outright podium in the Gomersall Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT4.

The penalty dropped Bryan and Morcom back to fifth as Tim Leahey won the Am Class to finish fourth in the Central West Prestige BMW M4 GT4 G82.

Bailey Love and Sam Brabham shared the Love Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT4 to sixth outright ahead of John Bowe in the lead Randall Racing BMW M4 GT4 G82, which was runner up in Am Cup alongside Jacob Lawrence.

Pro-Am winners Jason Yu and Josh Buchan finished seventh outright in the Team DNA McLaren Racing Artura GT4 after their win yesterday was stripped due to a pit stop time infraction. Just finishing behind was class rivals Shane Smollen and Lachlan Mineeff in the Method Motorsport Porsche Cayman 718 GT4, while the similar model of Zoe Woods rounded off the top 10 for TekworkX Motorsport.

Miedecke and Gray led the way in Silver Cup ahead of Flack sharing the Method Motorsport McLaren with Hayman, while Camilleri completed the class podium.

It was Yu and Buchan in Pro-Am from reigning series winner Smollen partnered by Mineeff, with Mark Cotterell’s Ginetta G55 GT4 rounding the podium teaming with Jarrod Hughes.

Leahey completed the Am Cup sweep from Bowe and Lawrence, as the battle for third heated up as it fell in favour of Mark Griffith from Vince Gucciardo, while the second Randall Racing BMW of Peter Lawrence and Jamie Augustine completed the class top five.

Monochrome GT4 Australia next competes at The Bend Motorsport Park as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries on May 31-June 2.
