Rintoule and Hughes’ switch to Method Motorsport boosts Silver Cup victory hopes

Summer Rintoule and Jarrod Hughes will return to Monochrome GT4 Australia in a new team and new car for 2026, with the pair joining Method Motorsport in one of their two McLaren Artura GT4s.

Having enjoyed a stellar maiden season in the series with JGI Triple Eight Racing behind the wheel of a Mercedes-AMG GT4, the pair are hoping their move to the successful outfit will boost their efforts in the Silver Cup.

One of the youngest combinations in the talented Silver Cup field last year, Rintoule and Hughes were regular visitors to the podium throughout the season, with eight finishes in the top three out of 12 races.

Picking up their maiden podium together under lights at Sydney Motorsport Park, which also proved to be Rintoule’s first ever, the pair really hit their stride in the back half of the season with podiums in all but one race.

While they were never able to stand on the top step across the 12 races, Rintoule and Hughes’ consistency saw them ultimately end the year in third place – a gallant effort in their debut season.

Outside of Monochrome GT4 Australia, Rintoule is still towards the start of a promising career, having raced Hyundai Excels in 2022 before moving up to Toyota’s one-make series the following year.

Hughes is further along in his career, with the talented youngster having risen through the ranks after starting in the TGRA GR Cup, where he secured a fifth-place championship finish in 2023.

In 2024, he graduated to Super2 and debuted in Monochrome GT4 Australia alongside Mark Cotterell, securing three podiums in the Ginetta G55 GT4. Last year, his rise continued as he won the TA2 Series with eight victories and made his Supercars debut alongside Jack Le Brocq as a co-driver.

Rintoule and Hughes begin their 2026 Monochrome GT4 Australia season at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit next month as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries’ LIQUI MOLY GT Festival Phillip Island on 27-29 March.

“I'm super excited to be moving to the McLaren with Method Motorsport under the guidance of Chaz Mostert,” Rintoule said.

“I think it's going to be a really cool step for this year. It was always really sad not to be with Triple Eight again, as they were awesome to be a part of last year and the team was really great, but obviously they have a bit going on this year.

“With that said, I am really grateful to be a part of the Method Motorsport team, and I think moving to Method Motorsport in a race-winning car will give us every chance to take the Silver Cup title.

“It's really good to have Jarrod on board again for the 2026 season. We obviously communicate really well together and did quite well racing last year, which resulted in a couple of podiums.

“We’re obviously still looking for that top step. That's definitely something we'll be fighting for.”

“We had a very good year last year with Summer and Triple Eight Racing. We started off the year on a bit of a low, unfortunately, with a few things happening at Phillip Island, but throughout the year, we gradually just kept building. We got pole positions, podiums and fastest laps – everything but a first win,” Hughes said.

“With that said, our aim this year is to get that top step, but we got a heap of podiums and ended up getting third overall, which was pretty cool. So we're looking to build on something that was quite big last year and go bigger again with Method Motorsport and the McLaren this year.

“I think Triple Eight were awesome last year and they're one of the best organisations, if not the best in the country, so it was good to see how they operate and understand how they operate as well.

“Obviously Chaz has had some pretty big success over the past two years, so we're just looking to try and learn off that if we can and see what makes these guys so good, and why they've been successful.

“That’s what we're going there for – we’re not going there to get second or third like we did last year - we’re going there to win and that's our only goal in sight.

“I’m also excited to be with Summer again. She did really well last year and her progression was really cool to see. She has driven the McLaren before and she was quite rapid in it, so I'm excited to see how we both go in it.”
