Cam McLeod to become second Aussie to race in GT4 European Series

Cameron McLeod is the latest Monochrome GT4 Australia driver to get an international opportunity, with the Queenslander confirmed to run in the GT4 European Series’ second round of the 2026 season.

The Ford Racing Development Driver will race for the hugely successful Academy Motorsport at Monza this weekend in the team’s #62 Ford Mustang GT4 alongside Canadian Marco Signoretti.

McLeod won’t be the only Monochrome GT4 Australia competitor on the GT4 European Series grid this weekend at Monza either, with Lachlan Evennett continuing his 2026 campaign in Europe for Speedy Motorsport in a GR Supra GT4 EVO2.

A rising star of Australian motorsport, McLeod has made quite an impact since joining the Monochrome GT4 Australia grid this year, with he and teammate Mason Harvey currently third on the Silver standings after two rounds.

The pair enjoyed a dream start to the season at Phillip Island in March as they converted McLeod’s front row qualifying efforts to a podium on debut, before scoring their second top three finish at The Bend earlier this month, placing third in Sunday’s outing.

In addition to his impressive Monochrome GT4 Australia start, McLeod has had a solid career already, having won Mustang Cup Australia races at Shannons SpeedSeries events this year, clean-sweeping the Mustang Challenge Le Mans Invitational last year and enjoying multiple campaigns in the Super2 Series.

The 21-year-old’s remarkable form in 2025 accelerated his path into Ford's international development ranks, earning him a spot in the prestigious Ford Racing Development Team.

"I'm really excited to be joining Academy Motorsport for Monza," McLeod said.

"Racing in Europe in the GT4 European Series is a huge opportunity, and I can't wait to get started. The team has an outstanding reputation for developing drivers, and I'm confident we can have a strong weekend alongside Marco.”

In joining Academy Motorsport this weekend, McLeod becomes the fifth Ford Development Driver to compete with one of the most successful GT4 teams in the United Kingdom, which boasts a record of more than 10 UK Drivers and Team Championships in the past 12 years.

Team owner Matt Nicoll-Jones was excited to have another Ford Development Driver in McLeod join the team.

"The #62 car has become a genuine showcase for Ford Racing's development pathway, and that's something we take enormous pride in,” Nicoll-Jones said.

“Cameron is the fifth Ford development driver to represent Academy Motorsport this season, and that's no accident; it reflects the environment we've created and the relationship we have with Ford Racing. We want to keep giving their talent the platform it deserves.”

Academy Motorsport Team Manager Les Jones echoed Nicoll-Jones’ sentiments.

“Cameron is exactly the kind of driver the No. 62 seat is designed for,” Jones added.

“Five development drivers through our garage in one season is something we're extremely proud of. Cameron's record speaks for itself, and paired with Marco, we're expecting a strong Monza.”

Round 2 of the 2026 GT4 European Series takes place at Monza on 29-31 May, with McLeod to return to Australia to contest the third round of Monochrome GT4 Australia’s visit to Queensland Raceway on 12 - 14 June.
