Monochrome GT4 Australia wraps up Queensland with entertaining outing

Monochrome GT4 Australia has had an entertaining end to the LIQUI MOLY GT Festival Queensland with Race 2 providing plenty of drama and remarkable racing throughout the hour-long race.

Silver Cup

Tom Hayman and Jett Murray have found themselves back on the top step of the podium after claiming a dominant lights-out to chequered flag victory on Sunday.

With Murray having qualified on pole on Saturday afternoon, the drivers both put in near-perfect stints to guide the #25 Method Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4 to an three-second victory having led every lap.

Crossing the line in second place was the #227 Multispares Racing Ford Mustang GT4 of Cameron McLeod and Mason Harvey, while Jarrod Hughes and Summer Rintoule bounced back from a difficult Saturday night to round out the podium in their #87 Method Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4.

The class saw a number of its major players involved in a dramatic opening lap that instantly brought out the safety car with Jobe Stewart in the #48 Purdie Racing Audi R8 LMS GT4 and Lachlan Dalton in the #27 Multispares Racing Ford Mustang GT4 both making contact and coming to a halt as the rest of the field drove past them.

The #7 McElrea Racing BMW M4 GT4 G82 EVO of Jay Murray was also involved in a major incident on the opening lap - which sent him straight to the pits and out of the race.

There were no other major moments for the class throughout the race, with the only other early casualty being yesterday’s race winner Chris White in the #9 GR Supra GT4 EVO2 he shares with Daniel Frougas also forced to retire early due to a radiator issue.

White and Stewart’s issues elevated Jensen Shearer in the #46 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS to third, where he remained until he was overtaken by Jarrod Hughes in the #87 McLaren.

Silver-Am Cup

Caleb Paterson has scored his first ever win in Monochrome GT4 Australia after guiding the #28 Protein Organics Porsche Cayman GT4 RS CS to victory alongside stand-in co-driver Scott Green.

The pair’s victory came off the back of a brilliant stint from Paterson in the second half of the race where he charged away from the rest of the drivers in the class and enjoyed a comfortable run home.

More than six seconds proved the difference between the winning Porsche and the next best crew, which was the #75 Tufflift Racing by TSM McLaren Artura GT4 of Zac Soutar and Glenn Nirwan.

Making up the top three for the class, 16 seconds off the McLaren, was the #101 Game Over Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2 of Matt McCutcheon and Tony Quinn - the pair making it consecutive podiums in Queensland.

While Paterson and Green were deserving winners, they didn’t move to the top until the pit stop window after Green had put the Porsche to within reach of the McLaren.

Prior to the pit stops, Nirwan had led the way in the class after taking top spot away from Jarrod Keyte in the #21 Ekebol MPC Ford Mustang GT4 during the opening laps. Keyte remained in contention for the victory and kept Nirwan honest for the opening 18 minutes, however he wasn’t able to maintain that pressure as he eventually lost control of the car and tumbled down the order as a result.

That opened the door for Quinn and Steve Jakic in the #3 Thunder Buddies Racing / Black Diamond BMW M4 GT4 G82 to move into second and third respectively, before the latter dropped to fourth behind Green.

Green then passed Quinn not long before the window, before giving the car to Paterson, who slotted into the lead and never looked back.

Am Cup

Glen Walker overcame a disappointing Saturday DNF to claim Am Cup top honours after he comfortably steered the #14 Gomersall Motorsport Ford Mustang GT4 to victory.

The current Am Cup leader started in second place a few cars behind the #64 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS of Nathan Callaghan and Chris Lillis, but made a pass on the latter shortly after the safety car restart.

Just like he had all year, Walker never looked back for the rest of the race as he comfortably led the way home and produced a dominant run as he was the only Am Cup driver on the lead lap.

Finishing second was the #64 Porsche, while Ryan Sorensen rounded out the podium in the #11 Method Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4 a couple of seconds behind.

Monochrome GT4 Australia’s next round of the 2026 season will be a maiden visit to the Top End as part of the LIQUI MOLY GT Festival Darwin on 24-26 July.
