Jason Gomersall and Aaron Seton’s return to Monochrome GT4 Australia proved the perfect way to bounce back from a run of tough results as the pair enjoyed two class podiums on the iconic Hidden Valley Raceway in Darwin.
The Silver-Am reigning champions returned to the series after a crash at The Bend in May forced them to miss Queensland as the #1 Gomersall Motorsport Ford Mustang GT4 underwent serious maintenance.
In the pair’s highly anticipated return, they notched up a third place in the opening race of the weekend - remarkably their first for the year - before going one better on the Sunday to record a runner-up finish in the class.
The weekend marked a brilliant return to form for the pair, and showcased what they were capable of despite undergoing a tough title defence in the first half of the season - their best classified result of fourth the only other time they had reached the chequered flag in 2026.
“I really enjoyed the weekend in Darwin,” Gomersall said.
“I love the track and had raced there for around 10 years in a row before having a break of about four or five years, so it was great to be back.
“It was just as good and enjoyable as I remembered it, and we had a pretty solid weekend with third on Saturday and second on Sunday.
“The car ran faultlessly, which was a credit to the team for rebuilding it so well, and Aaron did a cracking job as usual.
“He was excellent in qualifying and both races, so it was great to be back running together.”
For Gomersall, the result on the Top End did more than just give them points in the standings - it instilled plenty of confidence in the seasoned campaigner and gave him plenty of hope for the future.
“Our season hasn't really gone to plan after coming back to defend our title from last year, with the mechanical DNF and pit lane penalty at Phillip Island, followed by missing
The Bend and Queensland,” Gomersall added.
“Hopefully we can get things back on track and finish the year strongly.
“I felt comfortable getting back in the car after being out since Phillip Island. It felt like business as usual, but I do think I was missing that last little bit of speed from being out of the car for a few months.
“The crash at The Bend might still be playing on my mind a little bit as well, so there is a bit of work to do to get back to where we were, but overall it was a pretty solid return.”
As for his teammate, Seton was proud of the way Gomersall responded and was pleased with the pair’s best weekend since the 2025 Monochrome GT4 Australia season finale in New Zealand.
“It was awesome to be back sharing the car with Jason. We really enjoy driving together and tend to look for the same things from the car, so it was great to be back on the GT4 grid in Darwin,” Seton explained.
“Having a strong weekend from a results perspective with two podiums was a bonus, Jason did a fantastic job "
“We showed that we can be competitive straight away after getting back into the car. The results gave us plenty of confidence and it was great to enjoy racing together again.”
While the pair still have a mathematical chance of winning the class title - albeit a lot has to go their way - how the #1 Gomersall Motorsport Ford Mustang GT4 runs for the remaining two rounds is still up in the air, with the team to look at all options.
“Obviously the goal was to secure the championship again, but that’s probably looking unlikely at this point, so we are looking at a bunch of different options for the rest of the season,” Gomersall said.
“I do this for fun and to be competitive, so there might be a change but no decisions have been made as we don't know exactly how the season will finish.
“All I know is that we really like the category, and we find it’s going from strength to strength, so we will remain as part of it and enjoy continuing to race.”
Monochrome GT4 Australia continues next month with LIQUI MOLY GT Festival Sydney, which takes place at Sydney Motorsport Park on 18-20 September.
