CAMM Quarries & Concrete Racing will welcome a new driver for Monochrome GT4 Australia’s upcoming round at Sydney Motorsport Park, with Jesse Dixon to step in for Lachlan Evennett.
With Evennett unable to attend the event due to a scheduling clash with GT4 European Series, Dixon will come in as a ready-made replacement to co-pilot the team’s GR Supra GT4 EVO alongside current Am driver Andrew Torti.
Torti didn’t have to look far and wide for a replacement either, with Dixon currently serving as the pair’s driver coach at his simulator coaching studio, making it an easy decision to bring him into the fold.
While LIQUI MOLY GT Festival Sydney will be Dixon’s debut in the series, he has a decent record behind the wheel within a number of high-profile categories around the country.
The Sydney event will mark Dixon’s first national-level race in 10 years, with his most recent appearance coming in Super2 at Adelaide in 2016.
Starting his career in 2009, Dixon predominantly ran in Formula Ford throughout his first few years - taking on some of the nation’s best drivers, including Chaz Mostert and Nick Percat.
His strong early form earned him a scholarship to race in Asia the following year, where he became a BMW Junior Driver in 2010 as part of the same programme as Formula 1 drivers Carlos Sainz and Daniil Kvyat.
After a brief international stint where he raced open-wheel cars and production cars across Asia and Europe, he got a shot at Supercars as a wildcard entry at the famous Bathurst 1000 in 2012 before going on to become a regular in the Australian V8 Ute Series over four years - an overall third place in 2014 marking his best season behind the wheel.
That period also included multiple stints in the Super2 in 2015 and 2016, giving Dixon plenty of experience racing at Australia’s best circuits and in competitive categories before he eventually took a break from the sport.
Following his Super2 and SuperUtes career, Dixon turned to driver coaching and running a sim business, Dixon Race Academy, while keeping his racecraft sharp with stints in BMWs and Excels across a range of state and club series.
While this will be his official debut in the series, Dixon is not new to Monochrome GT4 Australia and SRO Motorsports Australia as a whole - with the Queenslander currently coaching up to 20 drivers across a range of Shannons SpeedSeries categories.
His main duty on a Shannons SpeedSeries weekend, though, is serving as the coach and crew chief for the #28 Norganic Proteins Porsche of Caleb Paterson and Kent Quinn, with the Sydney weekend to see him turn from friend to foe as he spends time in a different garage.
The Queenslander will join Andrew Torti for the penultimate round of the season. Torti currently sits 24 points off the class-leading Ryder Quinn, with Torti and Evennett having scored two victories and a further podium during the opening four rounds.
While Evennett’s absence will rule him out of contention for the title, Torti remains very much in the hunt with more than 100 points still up for grabs across the last four races.
The Monochrome GT4 Australia season resumes next month with LIQUI MOLY GT Festival Sydney at Sydney Motorsport Park on 18-20 September.

“It’s my first time back at national level for 10 years, so I’m really pumped to race in a series like Monochrome GT4 Australia,” Dixon said.
“I will do my best to replace Lachlan and help Andrew as much as possible. While the main focus is to have a blast with him, once the helmets are on, it will all be about looking after the car, not conceding positions and going toe-to-toe with some high-level guys that have been sharp for years.
“While it’s been a long time since I raced at this level, I feel as good as I’ve ever been. As my day job is coaching on the sim and at the track with real racing drivers, it’s something I deal with all day, every day. I’m also racing in Excels at the moment, and while they’re not the quickest cars around a lap, it’s very competitive.
“I normally coach and crew chief the #28 Norganic Proteins Porsche with Caleb Paterson and Kent Quinn, so it will be fun to be rivals with them that weekend in the Supra, which is pretty cool.
“I also coach quite a few drivers who race on Shannons SpeedSeries weekends, including the likes of Renee Gracie, Shane Smollen and Oscar Targettt, so it’s really cool to join in with the actual helmet on for once rather than being the one helping others prepare for the weekend.”

“Lachlan and I didn’t realise at the start of the season that the dates clashed with the European GT4 rounds, which Lachlan races, so we had to find someone else and for me, Jesse was a natural fit,” Torti said.
“He’s got Super2, Utes and international experience and he’s our driver and sim coach, so there is a lot of familiarity there for us. Because he is also a really good guy, both Lachy and I get on well with him, so he was my instant pick.
“It didn’t take much convincing either as he was on board straight away. This team is about people that others don’t expect to win, and then somehow we come out and win. Jesse’s got a really good attitude, so I’m looking forward to having him alongside me.
“I’m still not counting myself out of the Silver-Cup title. There are still two rounds to go and anything can happen, and hopefully Jesse can help me stay in touch.”
