Multispares Racing will introduce a new driver line up in its #227 Ford Mustang GT4 this weekend with Tyler Collins and Adam Gowans to make their Monochrome GT4 Australia debuts.
The pair replace the outgoing Mason Harvey and Cam McLeod in the Mustang and will run in the Silver-Am class for the remaining two rounds of the 2026 season as they look to learn the car and the series as preparation for a potential full campaign in 2027.
At 50 years old, Gowans has quite an impressive 20-year record behind the wheel despite having only started racing cars when he was 30 years old. With a couple of years racing karts in his teenage years as his foundation, it didn’t take long for him to experience success as an adult as he won the 2009 Aussie Racing Cars Series in just his full season of racing.
That success opened the door to a broader range of opportunities, including Carrera Cup and the Bathurst 12 Hour. Gowans enjoyed strong results in Carrera Cup as an Elite Class competitor, while his Bathurst campaigns produced further success, including class victories in the Invitational category. He also recorded a Pro Class victory in the Carerra Cup Rennsport event alongside Shae Davies in 2013.
Gowans’ most notable period occurred between October 2013 and February 2015 when he picked up four class wins in three different series at the famous Mount Panorama. His victories came in support categories as part of the Bathurst 1000 and two Bathurst 12 Hour events, demonstrating his versatility across a wide variety of cars.
After taking a hiatus from motorsport in 2021, he briefly returned last year at the Baskerville Historic event before recently turning 50 and regaining the motivation taking the decision to return to national level competition - prompting his search to compete in a new series and falling into the opportunity to compete with Monochrome GT4 Australia.
Collins, at the other end, steps into the category at the start of a promising career and he has already enjoyed success in his own right.
Starting off karting against the likes of Broc Feeney and Jack Doohan, Collins’ first taste of car racing began at Norwell Motorplex where a handful of test days inspired the move to circuit racing.
His first few seasons of racing were in the popular Hyundai Excel Series, and Collins wasted no time scoring silverware as he claimed the Australian Excel Series title in just his first year, while also enjoying multiple solid results during his appearances at Bathurst with the category.
This year, Collins took the next step up in his racing career and entered the TGRA Scholarship Series, where he managed to secure the series title in his first attempt - an impressive feat considering Collins spends the majority of his time working as a videographer at motorsport events.
With Collins now looking towards the next stage of his racing journey, the opportunity to race in Monochrome GT4 Australia was one he couldn’t refuse.
Collins and Gowans will make their Monochrome GT4 Australia debuts this weekend at LIQUI MOLY GT Festival Sydney at Sydney Motorsport Park on 18-20 September.

“Being this excited probably doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of how I am feeling right now- honestly it’s all happened very quickly, so I haven’t really had time to fully digest it yet,” Collins said.

“Although this opportunity is not something I was expecting, I’m pretty excited about it all,” Gowans said.
“I’d made some inquiries about the category a few months ago, so it had been in the back of my mind, and then this unexpected opportunity became available and I felt it was a great chance to get in and experience the category properly
“I think it’s a really good way to explore the category and understand it. Rather than doing a couple of test days, I’m getting to jump straight into a full event, which is obviously a much better learning experience. I haven’t driven the car before, so it’s going to be a steep learning curve, but I’m definitely up for the challenge.
“There’s no pressure or expectation on us this weekend. Obviously, we’re competitive by nature and we want to do as well as we can, but we’re not in a championship hunt. The main goal is to bring the car home clean and use the weekend as one big practice session. If we can get a solid result along the way, that would be fantastic.
“I’ve driven a pretty broad range of cars over the years, including Carrera Cup cars, the cars I’ve raced at the Bathurst 12 Hour and an old V8 sports sedan that my dad raced back in the 1970s. I’m not intimidated by the Mustang at all. The modern GT car is obviously a different beast, but with the ABS brakes and the performance it has, it’s going to require a bit of finesse.
