Monochrome GT4 Australia wraps up season with thrilling Sandown encounter

Monochrome GT4 Australia has brought its 2026 season to a thrilling conclusion at Sandown Raceway, with the final race of the year delivering plenty of drama across all three classes as the remaining championship honours were decided.

Silver Cup

Tom Hayman and Jett Murray capped off their championship-winning campaign in style, securing a commanding victory in the final Silver Cup race of the season aboard the #25 Method Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4.

The pair controlled the race from the outset, leading from lights out to the chequered flag to finish ahead of Daniel Frougas in the #9 GWR Australia Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO 2, while Aaron Cameron and Lachlan Dalton completed the podium in the #27 Multispares Racing Ford Mustang GT4.

The race got off to a delayed start following a major opening-lap incident involving Jack Johnson and George Miedecke at Turn 3, which resulted in Johnson's #128 Team Soutar Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4 making heavy contact with the barriers.

Following a lengthy interruption, the race resumed with Murray immediately establishing a healthy advantage at the front, while Jobe Stewart initially held third in the #48 Audi R8 LMS GT4 before handling issues saw him begin to lose positions as the race progressed.

Among those to capitalise were Saturday's Race 1 winner Jack Wallis in the #62 Wallis Motorsport Ford Mustang GT4 and Dalton, with both drivers making strong progress through the opening stages.

The order remained relatively settled until the pit stop window, with Hayman and Murray maintaining control of the race as the leading crews completed their driver changes.

Hayman emerged from the stops with an advantage of approximately five seconds over Frougas, while Cameron was a further seven seconds behind in third. Hayman comfortably managed his advantage to secure the victory by just over six seconds, while Cameron pushed hard to close in on Frougas but ultimately had to settle for third.

The victory capped off a remarkable season for Hayman and Murray, who had already secured the Silver Cup championship during Saturday's opening race.

Silver-Am Cup

Cody Burcher and Dean Campbell secured an impressive victory in the class, while Zach Soutar and Glenn Nirwan produced a determined drive to claim the Silver-Am Cup title in the final race of the season.

The #118 Method Motorsport Ford Mustang GT4 crossed the line ahead of the #75 Tufflift Racing by TSM McLaren Artura GT4, with Caleb Paterson and Kent Quinn completing the podium in the #28 Norganic Proteins Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS.

There was plenty at stake heading into the final race, with several crews still in contention for the Silver-Am Cup title.

Quinn made an excellent start aboard the #28 Porsche, controlling the opening stint from the front before handing over to Paterson, who was motivated to remain in contention for the class title.

Behind him, fellow contenders Campbell and Nirwan occupied second and third positions, respectively, with both crews breaking away from the remainder of the field, which included another contender in Andrew Torti in the CAMM Quarries & Concrete Racing GR Supra GT4 EVO 2.

However, the battle for the title truly came to life following the pit stops, as Burcher emerged in the class lead after taking over from Campbell, while Paterson rejoined ahead of Soutar, leaving the latter with work to do if he was to secure the championship.

Soutar produced a determined charge and made his decisive move just after the halfway mark, working his way past Paterson to take second position, but the Porsche driver refused to give up, steadily closing the gap to the leading McLaren and working his way through traffic to bring himself back into contention.

The pair then engaged in a thrilling battle in the final minutes of the race as they ran side-by-side on multiple occasions and even made contact, with Paterson pushing hard to find a way past Soutar.

Soutar maintained his composure through the restart and held on to second position to secure the Silver-Am Cup championship alongside Nirwan.

Paterson and Quinn ultimately had to settle for third, narrowly missing out on the title despite a determined final effort.

Am Cup

Jacob Lawrence capped off the season with a commanding Am Cup victory, guiding the #32 Randall Racing BMW M4 GT4 G82 to the top step of the podium after a strong performance in the final race of the year.

Lawrence crossed the line ahead of Nathan Callaghan and Chris Lillis in the #64 Method Motorsport Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS, while Glenn Walker completed the podium in the #14 Gomersall Motorsport Ford Mustang GT4.

Having won yesterday’s opening race, the #64 Porsche still had plenty of work to do to replace Walker at the top of the standings, with Lillis enjoying a strong opening stint.

Unfortunately for Walker, his title aspirations took an early hit after making contact with Ryan Sorensen in the #11 Method Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4 before becoming involved in another incident following the restart, resulting in a 15-second penalty.

The penalty further compromised Walker's chances of challenging for the title, particularly as Lillis continued to produce a composed performance at the front of the field.

Following the pit stops, the #64 Porsche dropped to second due to a success penalty, allowing Lawrence to move into the lead and take control of the race.

It proved to be a significant opportunity for Lawrence, who produced a faultless run to the chequered flag to secure a six-second victory over Callaghan and Lillis - a remarkable result considering his issues on Friday.

After taking over the wheel, Callaghan was also relatively untroubled during his stint, like his co-driver, maintaining second position as Walker worked his way back through the field following his earlier penalty.

Walker eventually recovered to third position, but the gap to Callaghan proved too large to overcome, leaving him unable to challenge for the race victory or the championship.

The result confirmed Callaghan and Lillis as the 2026 Am Cup champions, bringing their successful campaign to a fitting conclusion.

The final race brought the 2026 Monochrome GT4 Australia season to a close, with championship battles decided and another memorable year of competition completed at Sandown Raceway
