Aaron Seton to drive in Monochrome GT4 Australia three-hour enduro

Aaron Seton will saddle up alongside Jake Camilleri for Round 3 of Monochrome GT4 Australia at Queensland Raceway next weekend.

The third generation racer will drive the Gomersall Motorsport-prepared Mercedes-AMG GT4 – an example he is familiar with, despite not having driven it.

Seton and his famous father Glenn are usually tinkering behind the scenes with Camilleri's Mercedes, engineering it at the race track.

At Queensland Raceway, Seton Jr will become a driver too in what will be the category's first three hour race.

Typical race formats for the Monochrome GT4 Australia are usually two one hour races, but for the Ipswich round, the category will enjoy its first three-hour race, featuring tyres changes and refuelling.

The three hour race will be held on Sunday morning and is set to include almost 20 entries.

The Seton and Camilleri duo is sure to be one of the front-runners too. Camilleri has enjoyed competitive outings in the opening two rounds, currently sitting fourth in the Silver Cup standings.

It will be the second time Seton and Camilleri have teamed up. The Queenslanders paired together in the 2016 Bathurst 12 Hour, driving a Mazda-shaped MARC Car.

While this will be Seton's first drive of Camilleri's Mercedes AMG GT4, it is also not his first GT4 race. Seton raced alongside Matthew Brabham and Tony Longhurst in the 2018 Bathurst 12 Hour, driving a BMW.

In 2024, Seton stepped back from regular motorsport competition, focusing on his mechanical and engineering skills in the industry. His Queensland Raceway GT4 outing will be his second race for the year after finishing first in class with Jason Gomersall in the Bathurst 6 Hour, driving a Ford Mustang.

Round 3 of the Monochrome GT4 Series is part of a huge line-up of racing at Queensland Raceway, part of the Shannons SpeedSeries. The event will also feature Round 3 of Fanatec GT Australia, plus more. All racing will be seen live and free on 7plus. For international viewers, all GT racing can be seen on the GT World YouTube channel.

QUOTES

#36 Gomersall Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT4

"I'm really looking forward to teaming up with Jake in the Merc," said Seton.

"I enjoy working in the category, and I have no doubt that I'm going to enjoy getting behind the wheel.

"I've done quite a few laps at Queensland Raceway, so I don't need to learn the track. QR is the designated Super2 test track, so I've done plenty of miles around there.

"It's just going to be cool jumping behind the wheel of the Merc, getting in with Jake and giving it our best shot.

"It's been great to see how the category has developed over time. It has had a spike in entries, and I think that's because it's a good formula.

"The one hour races are great to be involved with. It's got a small level of endurance racing and strategy about it, but the three hour race will be different, and the view from behind the wheel will also be a new one to me.

"I've missed driving, especially that feeling of going out for qualifying with green tyres. You go out there and do your best. That's the bit I've missed the most this year.

"But I'm enjoying being involved with Jason Gomersall and his team, and looking forward to seeing what the future brings."
