Three hour event to provide new challenge for competitors

Monochrome GT4 Australia will enter a new challenge at Round 3 of the title fight at Queensland Raceway when it contests a three hour race for the first time this season.

Just one hour races have been contested at the opening two rounds this season, but Sunday morning’s three hour is one Love Motorsport’s Sam Brabham is relishing.

Brabham will use experience from racing a similar Mercedes-AMG GT4 in a three hour event at Mount Panorama two years ago to build on he and Bailey Love’s solid start to the season.

“It’s pretty exciting,” Brabham remarked.

“We did one two years ago with Fanatec GT Australia when I ran with Chris Batzios, we did a three hour race at Bathurst. It was my first time at that place, which made it very special.

“A track like Queensland Raceway, a lot of observers think it’s easy because it’s quite a small circuit, but it’s a real challenge and to keep focused for that long is going to be really interesting. This will be further enhanced by the way the strategy and pit stops play out.”

Brabham believes the longer distance will provide some unpredictability as many of the teams, driver combinations and cars in the field haven’t contested an event of this length before.

“It’s a great experience for the amateur drivers to experience more endurance racing rather than the sprints, so it’s going to be a real challenge for everyone,” he explained.

“It’s something I’m really looking forward to.”

Round 3 of Monochrome GT4 Australia will be held as part of a stacked Shannons SpeedSeries event at Queensland Raceway on August 2-4 to be broadcast live via Network Seven and internationally on GTWorld.
