Mustangs double up in largest Monochrome GT4 Australia field so far

Monochrome GT4 Australia will welcome its largest field of the year thus far as it heads to Sydney Motorsport Park for the penultimate round of 2024 season.

A 22-car field will battle it out at a circuit best suited to this category as it welcomes an influx of new contenders across all three classes.

Headlining the new inclusions is a brand new Ford Mustang GT4 for former Touring Car Masters and Super3 competitor, Jason Gomersall.

Entered in the Am Cup, the Gomersall Motorsport Mustang joins the race winning Miedecke Motorsport with Lubrimaxx Mustang of George Miedecke and Rylan Gray.

Sydney marks an exciting round for Gomersall Motorsport as it expands to three entries, with Glenn Walker debuting in an Am Cup BMW M4 GT4 F82 and Silver Cup’s Jake Camilleri once again behind the wheel of the team’s Mercedes-AMG GT4.

Further bolstering the competition in Am Cup will be experienced production racer Anthony Soole in the Property Investment Store McLaren 570s GT4.

These three new Am Cup entries will contend against the class leading Randall Racing BMW M4 GT4 G82s and fellow regular Mark Griffith in a Mercedes-AMG GT4.

Jacob Lawrence can secure the class title in Sydney should he and co-driver John Bowe bank enough points, while father Peter will be aiming to make it a team one-two finish in the class standings alongside Jamie Augustine.

Tony Quinn will make his return to the series in the Game Over Porsche Cayman 718 RS CS GT4, while Anthony Levitt continues in the Method Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4 he won with in Am Cup at Phillip Island.

Father-son combo Rob and Bailey Love complete an exciting Am Cup field in the Love Racing by Volante Rosso Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT4.

Ginetta will be represented in Am Cup once again courtesy of the Goodwin Mackay/Lloyd Auctions G55 GT4 shared by Scott Turner and Rob Rubis

Super2 ace Lochie Dalton will add further intrigue to Pro-Am Cup as he partners up with fellow Tasmanian Ben Newman, who returns in the Buckby Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT4.

There is further expansion within the field, with TekworkX Motorsport continuing to build a formidable program.

TekworkX Motorsport will field two brand new Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CSs in Pro-Am. Zoe Woods is joined by the experienced Dan Jilesen, while father Rob makes his maiden appearance alongside young Lachlan Evennett.

This is in addition to the Pro-Am Cup contending Black Diamond Building and Construction BMW of form driver Ryder Quinn partnered by Steve Jakic.

While a welcome comeback is the partnership of Jason Yu and Josh Buchan in the Zagame Autosport McLaren Artura GT4, which scored a front row start at The Bend.

Mark Cottrell and Jarrod Hughes will be aiming to build on their giant killing performances at Queensland Raceway in another Ginetta G55 GT4.

Holding a comfortable advantage at the top of the Pro-Am Cup standings is Shane Smollen and Lachlan Mineeff in the Method Motorsport Porsche, with both keen to ensure the title is sewn up by Bathurst.

The Silver Cup title-fight has ebbed and flowed in 2024, but the advantage lies with Method Motorsport following the GT Festival at Phillip Island. Marcos Flack and Tom Hayman lead the standings after a DNF for the Miedecke Motorsport with Lubrimaxx Mustang in Race 2 stifled its title chances slightly.

The new addition of Sam Brabham and Antonio Astuti in the Love Racing by Volante Rosso Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT4 spiced up the established runners at the Island, while Tim Leahey will again be joined by Cody Burcher after dominating at the GT Festival sharing the Central West Prestige BMW M4 GT4 G82.

Private testing begins on Thursday ahead of two official practice sessions on Friday, qualifying and Race 1 on Saturday, with Sunday’s second hour-long event completing the round.

Round 5 of Monochrome GT4 Australia will be held in conjunction with the Shannons SpeedSeries at Sydney Motorsport Park on October 18-20.
