Team Soutar Motorsport has locked in its third Monochrome GT4 Australia entry for 2026 with Gerry and Jed Murphy completing the team’s three-car full season line up.
In what will be their debut season within the series, the father-son duo will be behind the team’s former Love Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4 and will contest the Silver-Am Cup class.
Both Gerry and Jed are at the opposite ends of their careers in the sport, with the former in the twilight years of his longstanding journey, while the latter will be competing in just his second year at national level.
The pair have raced together at state level since Jed made his racing debut in 2021 as part of the QLD Production Cars, before the teenager went on to run in the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Australia Scholarship Series, where he showed significant progress as the year went on with a number of top 20 finishes.
In between that first round, Jed has since run Excels, a V8 Commodore in Production Cars where he picked up a class championship, and a Porsche GT3 Cup car in the state Production Sports Series, enjoying an array of wins and podium finishes throughout his time.
His most recent event came towards the end of last year where he picked up a top five finish at the Queensland Production Sports Series.
Jed’s father Gerry has the more experience of the two, having been racing since 2001 and having contested a diverse range of categories in his 25 years behind the wheel.
From class podiums in the popular Bathurst 6 Hour and Bathurst 12 Hour events to outright NSW Production Car titles and a NSW Production Car Championship, and an appearance at the famous international endurance event, the Sepang 12 Hour – the 67-year-old brings plenty of experience to the partnership.
The Murphy entry follows the previous announcements with Zac Soutar and Glenn Nirwan in one of Team Soutar Motorsport’s McLaren Artura GT4 and rising star Jack Johnson in the other.
The pair will complete a couple of private testing days in the lead up to the Monochrome GT4 Australia season opener, which takes place as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries LIQUI MOLY GT Festival Phillip Island on 27-29 March.

“I started racing in 2001 and I’ve competed every year since, driving everything from PRB Clubmans through to sports cars. I have achieved class podiums at the Bathurst 6 Hour and the Bathurst 12 Hour, won state championships, multiple club championships and race wins, but doing Monochrome GT4 Australia is definitely a step up,” Gerry said.
“There are a lot of young, hungry drivers in this field and plenty of professionals. We’re realistic about the challenge, but we’re here to race hard and see what we can do.
“It’s always been a dream since Jed was born that we’d race together at this level somewhere. To be able to do it now in a strong series like this is really special. I’ve told him if he can’t beat an old man this year, he should give it up. But that’s the natural order of things – there comes a time when the son takes over.
“It’s a great motivator for me. My goal is to match his times as closely as I can. We push each other, and that’s a big part of why this is so enjoyable.
“We’ve been successful together before at state level, but this is our first national series. For us, it’s about embracing the opportunity, racing hard and making the most of a chance we’ve always wanted.”

“It’s been a long off-season, especially for me. We finished mid-year in 86s last season, so it’s felt like months of just waiting. I’m super keen to get going,” Jed said.
“Dad and I always wanted to get back into the GT scene. GT4 presented a really good opportunity to step into national-level competition and do it together as a family.
“That was definitely a massive selling point. We’ve done some state racing together before, but there aren’t many categories that allow you to compete together nationally like this. It just made sense to give it a crack.
“My first test day with the team was awesome. The professionalism and the level of preparation is a big step up. From the first test, you could see how serious everything is at this level.
“Overall, the step up from the Toyota 86 to the Mercedes was pretty insane and it definitely got us excited for what’s ahead. I’m keen to race against really strong competition in the Silver-Am class.
“Right now, we’re planning to do GT4 for a couple of years and see where it leads. There’s no rush to move anywhere, but we just want to make the most of the opportunity and build from here.”
