Tom Hayman targeting third Silver Cup title with young gun Jett Murray

Two-time Monochrome GT4 Australia Silver Cup champion Tom Hayman will be targeting a third consecutive class title in 2026 and will be joined by rising star Jett Murray in his bid to do so.

The pair will be behind the wheel of the McLaren Artura GT4 with Method Motorsport and will contest the Silver Cup as Hayman enters the series as one of its major stars and Murray as one of the hottest young talents in the country.

Across his two seasons in Monochrome GT4 Australia, Hayman has stood on the podium a total of 19 times – eight of which have been on the top step.

Alongside Marcos Flack in 2024, the Queenslander steered the Method Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4 to three wins and a further eight podiums to claim the Silver Cup title by seven points over George Miedecke and Rylan Gray.

Last year, with a new co-driver by his side in Max Geoghegan, Hayman went on to win five races, three of which occurred in the final two rounds, while adding a further three podiums to their tally – their solid record securing them the Silver Cup title over Miedecke and Gray by just one point.

Hayman’s remarkable form over the two years also earned him an opportunity to participate in a special two-day McLaren Customer Racing driver assessment where he drove a McLaren Artura GT4 and 720S GT3 at Circuito de Navarra in Spain.

As for Murray, the younger brother of current Supercars driver Cooper Murray, he is at the beginning of a promising career, with this year to be his third year racing at national level.

The 16-year-old graduated from karting and moved into the entry-level Hyundai Excel Series before a brief stint in the TGRA Scholarship Series where he showed plenty of promise.

For the 2025 season, he graduated to the TGRA GR Cup where he picked up a number of podiums on the way to an impressive third place finish for the season – a reward for his consistency.

While Murray is the least experienced of Hayman’s now three teammates, the youngster has quickly caught up to speed with the car and showcased his raw speed during multiple testing days.

Hayman will kick off his title defence alongside Murray at next month’s LIQUI MOLY GT Festival Phillip Island at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit on 27-29 March.

“It’s pretty cool to be back and to have the opportunity to go for a third class title. It’s not something anyone’s done before, so that makes it even more special,” Hayman said.

“The experience I’ve had so far has been awesome. The category has grown so much over the past two years, and last season was probably one of the most competitive yet. Hopefully it keeps building again this year.

“I’m really grateful to be jumping back in with Method Motorsport for another season and I definitely think we’re capable of it. The team’s McLarens are always on song, and I feel like we’re in a strong position to have a real crack at the championship and that third title.

“I still remember getting the call in the first year and not believing I was speaking to Chaz Mostert. Now we’re good mates and he’s been in my corner for a long time. It’s awesome to be continuing that relationship.

“It’s great to be driving with Jett this year. He might not have the experience that Marcos or Max had, but he’s been awesome in testing. He’s taken to it like a duck to water and has been super quick. It’s been really enjoyable working with him so far.”

Jett Murray

“It feels great to be joining Monochrome GT4 Australia this year, and even better to be joining a team that’s won class titles over the last two years. It gives me a lot of confidence heading into the season,” Murray said.

“Joining Monochrome GT4 Australia felt like the right step for me. It’s a competitive category, all the cars are close, and it’s a good opportunity to move into a faster car while continuing to develop, and being part of Method Motorsport made it even more appealing.

“I’m really looking forward to learning as much as I can from Tommy (Hayman). He’s obviously achieved a lot in this category, and having someone like Chaz (Mostert) and the engineers around us means I’ve got some great people to learn from.

“It would be pretty special to help Tommy make it three in a row, so that’s definitely the goal this year, and hopefully I can play a role in that.

“We’re still figuring out exactly what the long-term plan looks like in terms of my career, but right now the focus is on learning as much as I can and making the most of this opportunity. Each season has helped me improve my craft and my third place in the TGRA GR Cup gives me a big confidence boost heading into this season.”
