Debutant Cy Pearson to round out Method Motorsport stable

Method Motorsport will unearth a brand new talent to the Monochrome GT4 Australia Series this year, with Cy Pearson rounding out the team’s six-car charge for the upcoming season.

In what will be his maiden season in any form of motorsport, Pearson will complete the season in the Am Cup behind the wheel of a Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS.

While Pearson will be entering his first season in a national category with little motorsport experience, he has had plenty of time on the track as part of the many track days and club events he has participated in, as well as running in the famous Targa Tasmania last year.

Born in Orange, the New South Welshman is also no stranger to the sport, having grown up with a father who was a 1972 Australian karting champion and who raced Formula 5000s, Brabham BT19s and BT23s with the number six - the same number Pearson will run with in 2026.

Despite showing interest in the sport from a young age, Pearson instead chose to pursue his other major talent – rowing – which led him to a 1994 Commonwealth Games Gold Medal and a number of other world, national and state championships.

Now, with a successful business and more time on his hands, Pearson has finally found the opportunity to get behind the wheel himself. It will be Shane Smollen’s successful Porsche that Pearson will be driving in 2026 – a car with plenty of winning experience in the series, which includes the 2024 Silver-Am (then known as Pro-Am) Cup title.

Since confirming his entry, Pearson has had a number of test days with the Method Motorsport crew and has been improving rapidly throughout the pre-season ahead of his debut next month.

The 2026 Monochrome GT4 Australia season kicks off with the LIQUI MOLY GT Festival Phillip Island at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit on 27-29 March.

“I grew up in Orange in New South Wales and motorsport has always been around me. I wanted to race when I was younger, but rowing was my focus at the time and you can’t do two sports properly if you’re giving them everything,” Pearson said.

“Fortunately, I’ve had some success in business, which has allowed me to step into motorsport and over the past few years, I’ve managed to do plenty of track days and some club events, and I competed in Targa Tasmania last year with the Porsche guys.

“I’m naturally competitive and that never leaves you as a former athlete, but my focus this year is on continual improvement. It doesn’t matter if I am mid-grid, at the front or at the back, as long as I’m getting better each time I’m in the car, I’ll be happy.

“I have no doubt that Chaz Mostert and the team at Method Motorsport will help me with that. With that said, as you get older, you worry less about what people bring to the table and more about the quality of the human, and there are some quality people in this team.

“Overall, I’m really enjoying the preparation. I’ve adjusted my gym program to include more cardio and I’m being very mindful about everything I do to better myself. That athlete’s mindset never really leaves you.

“I’m very excited to finally be making my own debut after all these years – especially coming from where I grew up and being able to race the same number as my dad, it certainly means a lot.”
